If you're new to creating PowerPoint® presentations, we have prepared a short step-by-step guide to downloading slides and manipulating them in PowerPoint®. More detailed instructions are on the Speakers Kit CD-ROM. For advanced help with PowerPoint®, please consider consulting the software manual or any of the how-to books found in your local stores. You may also find answers to technical questions at www.microsoft.com.

  1. Each Speakers Kit contains a link to the Presentations page, which offers a comprehensive set of slides and their Table of Contents, and a link to download the PowerPoint® presentation.

  2. Start by familiarizing yourself with these slides. Speakers need to select the slides for their presentations based on the information the speaker believes would be of interest and of use to the audience. Once you've decided on the kind of presentation you want to give, you're ready to start putting it together.

  3. The Presentation page provides a list of the individual slides, as well as a link to view the entire presentation. The presentation allows you view the slides and notes together and navigation buttons at the top of the slide let you browse forward or backward through the presentation. At the bottom of each slide are links that let you download the entire presentation, or just the individual slide.

  4. You may want to make it extremely easy on yourself by downloading the entire presentation and add or subtract just a few slides to make your customized presentation.

  5. Once you have assembled your slides into a folder and are familiar with the content of each, it is most helpful to put the slides into a PowerPoint® presentation in a "slide sorter" format. You can find that option in your pulldown "View" menu when you are in the PowerPoint® application.

  6. It's helpful to use the title slide as your first slide and then copy and paste, or drag, other slides that you have downloaded into the "slide sorter" in the order in which you want them. You will see vertical lines appear next to the slides when you move your cursor over them in the "slide sorter" format. These lines show you where your slide will end up if you drop it or paste it at that point.

  7. You can see how your slides are working together at any time by using the "slide show" option in your pulldown "View" menu in PowerPoint®. You can then click back to the "slide sorter" and rearrange them. Exit from the "slide show" by moving your cursor to the lower left corner of the slide. You will see a menu of choices and may exit here.

  8. Be sure to save your presentation as you work. The slides will remain as is on this Web site, but you will want to have your own copy of your own customized presentation.
